How soon can I go back to work after a hair transplant

When can you go back to work after a hair transplant?

Back to all articles When can you go back to work after hair a transplant? After a hair transplant, you can typically plan to return to work within 1 week after your procedure. Some variable factors do need to be taken into account. Your profession is one such variable, but the typical amount of time needed away from work after a hair-transplant procedure is one to three days. Some really common hair-styling techniques can help to significantly conceal any obvious signs of having had the procedure performed. This will be reviewed thoroughly at your consultation.   The First Few Days After Your Hair Transplant Immediately after your hair transplant, you’ll experience some mild swelling and redness around the donor and recipient areas. This is completely normal and part of your body’s natural healing process. We advise our clients to take at least 1–3 days off work after their procedure, as the first couple of days are very important for your body to begin the healing process. For many clients, taking about a week off provides adequate time for the visible signs of  the procedure, like redness or minor swelling, to start fading. However, this can vary.   Factors That May Influence Your Return to Work If you have a desk job or work from home, you may feel comfortable returning to work within a few days. However, for jobs requiring physical activity, it’s recommended to take at least a week off to avoid any strain or excessive sweating that could affect your healing scalp. Activities that elevate your blood pressure, such as heavy lifting, can impact the success of grafts, so they should be avoided for 7–10 days after the procedure.   Visible Effects of a Hair Transplant Procedure If you feel self-conscious about the visible effects of the transplant, such as scabs or redness, you may prefer a few additional days of recovery before going back to work. Some people choose to wear a loose-fitting cap (if permitted by the clinic and your workplace) to minimize the visibility of the procedure when they do return.   Your Body’s Healing Response Each individual heals at a different pace. While some may experience minimal swelling and rapid healing, others may need extra time for the scalp to calm down. Listening to your body and following post-operative instructions from your specialist will aid in an optimal recovery. To make your transition back to work as smooth as possible, follow these tips: Follow All Aftercare Instructions: Proper aftercare is crucial for avoiding complications and ensuring optimal results. This includes keeping your scalp clean, avoiding strenuous activity, and protecting the area from sunlight. Plan for a Low-Activity Day: If you’re able, try to ease back into work with lighter tasks on your first day back, especially if you’re still managing minor discomfort. Use Cover-Up Options: If necessary, consider using a loose hat or scarf to cover the area (if your doctor approves) to feel more comfortable around colleagues and clients. Schedule Accordingly: If you can work from home, this might be a good option for the first few days back, allowing you to resume work without being fully visible to others.     Long-Term Results Are Worth The Wait While the recovery process can require some time and patience, the results of a successful hair transplant are transformative. As your new hair grows in, it will blend naturally with the rest of your hair, and in a few months, you’ll be able to style it just the way you want. Taking the necessary time off work ensures you get the best results possible and allows you to return feeling confident and ready. It is worth it to wait! We’re here to support you through every step of the process, including your post-procedure care and questions. Don’t hesitate to reach out for guidance, and remember that with a little patience, you’re on your way to achieving the look you’ve been envisioning! What to Expect 4 Months After Hair a Transplant Procedure

Back to all articles What to Expect 4 Months After Hair a Transplant Procedure Previously we covered what you can expect 10 days after a hair transplant, if you’re curious to review. Now we’ll give you a rundown about what you can expect 4 months after a hair transplant procedure! Four months after a hair transplant, it is typical to start seeing early stages of growth in the transplanted hairs but the hairs are not fully matured yet at this stage. At the four month mark, you can expect about 50% more growth. Final results take 12 months. Below you’ll see WeGrowHairIndy patient, Nick, four months after his ARTAS Robotic FUE hair transplant. Nick grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana and started to notice his receding hairline at 18 years old. He came to see us because he wasn’t prepared to stand by and watch his hair disappear at such an early age. ARTAS FUE Hair Transplant 4 Mo Follow Up – Nick Below you’ll see Nick’s pictures from before and 4 months after his ARTAS Robotic FUE hair transplant procedure. The ARTAS procedure is the most advanced FUE hair transplant method in the world and eliminates the human error factor, a common issue with FUE procedures done without the accuracy and reproducibility of the ARTAS Robot. The ARTAS system harvests follicles for transplantation using several advanced algorithms and ensures that the last follicle harvested is of equal quality to the first. To see more of Nick’s journey including the day of his procedure & 8 month results, click here. Next you’ll see one of our VIPs, Rick DeMulling, 3 months and 4 months after his Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ hair transplant. For a 3 month update, Rick sent us a video 90 days after his procedure – check it out! Rick DeMulling 3 Month Selfie Update Rick is 3 months post his Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ hair transplant procedure! Check out what he & his whole family have to say about his progress. Rick chose the Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ procedure because he had a large area of loss that needed to be addressed and with this procedure we can transplant up to 3x the amount of hair and up to 2x the density in a single procedure compared to other known hair transplant methods. Rick DeMulling 4 Month Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ Hair Transplant Update ”I was out with my football buddies recently and it was the first time I haven’t worn a hat in any kind of gathering, and they were pretty impressed with the results. I told them it’s only like halfway done, we still have another 8 months until we’re fully into it, and it blew them away.” Check out Rick’s photos below to compare before and 4 months after his Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ hair transplant procedure. Alopecia Areata: Understanding and Supporting the Journey

Back to all articles Alopecia Areata: Understanding and Supporting the Journey As September rolls in, we’re joining the global effort to raise awareness about alopecia areata, a condition that affects millions of people worldwide. We Grow Hair Indy believes in the power of education, empathy, and support, and we’re committed to shedding light on this often-misunderstood condition. What is Alopecia Areata? According to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, alopecia areata is an autoimmune disorder that causes hair loss, typically in small, round patches on the scalp, face, or other areas of the body. The exact cause of alopecia areata remains unknown, but it occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks hair follicles, leading to hair loss. Living with alopecia areata can be challenging, both physically and emotionally. Hair loss can affect self-esteem and body image, leading to feelings of isolation and anxiety. While the condition can sometimes resolve on its own, it can also lead to more widespread hair loss or even total loss of scalp and body hair, known as Alopecia Totalis or Alopecia Universalis. It is estimated that almost 7 million people in the United States alone suffer from alopecia areata. Treatments and Solutions We Grow Hair Indy offers a range of solutions for individuals experiencing hair loss, including those with alopecia areata. While hair transplants may not be an option for those with this condition, we provide personalized consultations to explore the best possible treatments and support. Medical Treatments: Medications such as minoxidil can sometimes help stimulate hair regrowth or manage symptoms. Hair Restoration: In rare cases, hair transplant procedures might be considered, depending on the extent and nature of hair loss. We work closely with patients to assess their needs and determine the most appropriate course of action. Supportive Measures: Non-surgical hair replacement solutions can help individuals manage the appearance of hair loss and regain confidence if a hair transplant or other forms of promoting hair growth is not an option with the condition.   For more information on how we can support you or your loved ones affected by Alopecia Areata, please contact us at the form below. Your Ultimate FAQ Guide to Hats, Hair Transplants, and Hair Loss

Back to all articles Your Ultimate FAQ Guide to Hats, Hair Transplants, and Hair Loss Hats, hair transplants, and hair loss – these topics often intertwine in the realm of style, health, and confidence. This comprehensive FAQ guide aims to address common queries surrounding hats, hair transplants, and hair loss, offering insights and advice to empower your choices and boost your confidence. Q: Can wearing hats cause hair loss? A: Generally, wearing hats does not directly cause hair loss. However, if hats are excessively tight or dirty, they can contribute to scalp issues that may exacerbate hair loss. Q: How can I care for my hair while wearing hats? A: Ensure your hats are clean and not too tight. Also, regularly wash your hair and scalp to maintain healthy hair follicles. Q: Can I wear a hat after a hair transplant? A: Short answer, yes! You can wear a hat while the hair is growing in, starting about 4-5 days after the hair transplant surgery. Make sure the hat is clean so it does not infect the surgical site. Long answer, it’s best to wait those few days to ensure the newly implanted hair is rooted correctly. However, if you are traveling the day after surgery and absolutely need to cover up, a loose-fitting, clean hat may be worn. Q: How do I clean my hat? A: As emphasized, a clean hat is best before and after a hair transplant! Follow the care instructions provided by the manufacturer, and consider hand-washing or using a gentle cycle in the washing machine with mild detergent. Avoid using harsh chemicals or hot water, as this could damage both the hat and your scalp. Q: Will wearing a hat affect the outcome of my transplant? A: Wearing a hat occasionally after the initial healing period is unlikely to have a significant impact on the final results of your hair transplant. There’s typically no need to avoid hats altogether in the long term. Ultimately, with proper care and attention, you can enjoy the benefits of both your favorite hat and the results of your hair transplant. If you have any concerns or questions about wearing hats after your procedure, don’t hesitate to consult with your hair restoration expert for personalized advice and guidance. Understanding the Connection Between Stress and Hair Loss

Back to all articles Understanding the Connection Between Stress and Hair Loss April is Stress Awareness Month, giving time to showcase the effects stress can have on your body and more specifically on your hairline. While stress is a common aspect of modern life, its impact on physical health, particularly hair health, often goes underestimated. The Why Telogen effluvium is a type of hair loss characterized by a sudden shedding of hair, typically occurring after a stressful event or period of prolonged stress. According to the National Institute of Health, there are three phases of the hair growth cycle. In the first phase of growth (anagen), strands push through the skin. Next, degeneration (catagen) occurs where hair stops growing and the follicle under the skin at the base shrinks. The shrinking will cause the hair to weaken and fall out in the telogen phase, which is when the cycle starts over. However, telogen effluvium was found when researchers tested the adrenal glands that produce stress hormones because over time they blocked the follicles between the telogen and anagen phases, preventing regrowth after loss. The Impact When stress hormones are being overproduced over a long period of time, permanent damage is a strong possibility. The impact of stress-induced hair loss extends beyond physical appearance, often taking a toll on one’s emotional well-being and self-esteem. Individuals experiencing hair loss may feel self-conscious, leading to anxiety, depression, and diminished quality of life. Moreover, the psychological distress caused by hair loss can perpetuate a cycle of stress, exacerbating the condition further. The Solution We Grow Hair Indy is dedicated to growing, maintaining, and preserving hair growth. Through surgical and non-surgical approaches, we individualize our recommendations to what best suits your hair journey. If you’ve already experienced extreme hair loss due to stress, consult with one of our specialists to see what the next steps are to regaining your confidence. Why Get a Second Hair Transplant?

Back to all articles Why Get a Second Hair Transplant? Michael Leepper is one of our clients who decided to have a second hair transplant procedure. Sometimes clients like to have more than one procedure to enhance the improvement they already experienced with their first hair transplant. With a second procedure, you can increase density, address a new area, or lower or broaden your hairline. In Michael’s case, he got a second hair transplant in order to increase density in his frontal area. Below you’ll see the results we were able to achieve after Michael’s first and second Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ procedures. Typically the first hair transplant is going to give you the biggest cosmetic difference. In his first hair transplant, we were able to recreate his hairline and reframe his face. After the second hair transplant, you’ll notice the additional thickness in the hairline. It’s tougher to see the drastic difference when you’re simply transplanting for more thickness and volume. The biggest impact you’ll see from a second hair transplant is when you’re addressing a new area of hair loss. To see all of Michael’s before and after photos, click below. Michael Leepper Class 3 – Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ – 2 Procedures Another question we get is regarding what type of procedure is right for a second hair transplant. Whether your first hair transplant procedure was the Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ or ARTAS Robotic FUE, we can help determine which solution is best for your second procedure based on your goals. How Environmental Factors Affect Your Hair and Skin

Back to all articles How Environmental Factors Affect Your Hair and Skin Our skin and hair are the first to suffer the effects of everyday damaging environmental factors. These factors include; chemicals, pollution, minerals, weather, and sun exposure. Our bodies succumb to damage overtime, which can lead to visible skin dryness and wrinkles, as well as thin and brittle hair. The Effects of Pollution: Our bodies are constantly exposed to the damaging effects of pollution, also known as oxidative stress, which can lead to an increase in your hair shedding. One of the ways pollutants affect our hair is through water. Particles from the air, chemicals and minerals in the water are causing damage to your hair and skin. This damage will buildup if not properly treated and will lead to dryness, breakage, and the thinning of your hair follicles. One can also experience an oily, dry or itchy scalp, which is also a huge factor in hair loss. Humid or Dry Environments: Depending on where you live, the humidity or dryness of your environment can have a large impact on the health of your hair and skin. If you live in an environment with high temperatures and sun exposure, the UV rays can damage the proteins in your hair and scalp sunburns can cause irreversible damage to your hair follicles, stunting their growth. If you live in an environment with cold temperatures, your hair can become very brittle, as there is less moisture in the air. Frequent use of hats and scarves can also cause friction and result in breakage of your hair strands. Environmental Toxins: Everyday, we are exposed to environmental toxins that are absorbed into our bodies. Depending on where you live or work, you could be at an increased level of exposure than others (e.g. chemical factories, industrial sites, warehouses, disaster or contaminated zones). These toxins can have an effect on hormonal levels in our bodies, thus depriving the hair of nutrients, and leading to hair follicle damage. Other chemicals that are used in households such as; benzene, formaldehyde, and pesticides can also cause hair loss. It is hard to avoid a lot of the damaging effects of our environment on a daily basis. We come into contact with many of these factors due to our lifestyle, job, living situation, and hygiene habits. In order to combat the unavoidable side of environmental damage to your hair and skin, we recommend speaking to a trichologist in order to understand some of the issues you are experiencing. A trichologist can perform a hair and scalp analysis and offer a treatment plan to ensure that you are set up for optimal hair growth. We Grow Hair Indy offers free virtual and in-person consultations, including a hair and scalp analysis with one of our trichologists. For more information, call 317-522-2995 or schedule a free consultation with us.

What is Scalp Micropigmentation?

Back to all articles What is Scalp Micropigmentation? Scalp Micropgimentation (also known as SMP) is a non-surgical hair loss solution that uses pigment to create a permanent hair line or add density to thinning hair. Micropigmentation is used to create tiny dots or small “hash marks” to replicate a hair that has been recently shaved. SMP is a great choice for those who want a shaved down look, or want to enhance their hairline or the appearance of thicker hair. For those who wear their hair longer, SMP can improve the appearance of thicker, denser hair by filling in areas that appear thinner. This solution can also benefit those who wish to conceal birthmarks, experienced scarring from older transplants or injuries that have left areas of your scalp bald or thin. A Scalp Micropigmentation transformation can be completed in as little as one day, with minimal down time for healing. Not only are the results proven with a lifetime guarantee, you will also be able to see the results almost immediately after your SMP session! To bring SMP to our clinic’s services, we partnered with Good Look Ink in order to provide the industry’s best techniques and solutions to our clients. Their highly tained Certified Impression Technicians™ provide cutting-edge techniques and artistry to ensure that you receive a natural, long-lasting result. It is truly a life-changing experience. Does wearing a hat cause hair loss?

Back to all articles Does wearing a hat cause hair loss? There are a variety of myths about causes and cures for thinning hair. But when you’re deciding on treatment options, you deserve the truth about hair loss. Today, we’re debunking one major myth about hair that we hear all the time: Does wearing a hat cause hair loss? Read on to find out. Which came first: The hat or the hair loss? By now, you’ve probably heard someone say that hats cause hair loss or make existing hair loss worse. It’s easy to believe. After all, many people with hair loss are always wearing hats. We have good news: If you throw on a hat whenever you head outside, there’s no need to worry. As long as your hat isn’t abnormally tight, it will not cause or worsen hair loss. While traction alopecia (hair loss caused by pulling hair or irritating the area) does exist, a hat would need to be extremely tight to cause this. In fact, hats are actually great for protecting the scalp from damaging UV rays, especially in the sunny summer months. For those with thinning hair, hats are a great option for protecting the head, not a threat to existing hair. Why does this myth keep getting passed around? As we mentioned, it’s common for people with hair loss to frequently wear hats. Usually this is to conceal the thinning areas. While it doesn’t cause loss, people often associate them just because they go hand in hand. Additionally, a frequent hat-wearer experiencing loss may notice more hair on the inside of their hat when they remove it. This continued loss would have happened anyway due to the true causes of thinning and balding. The hat simply caught the hair that would’ve fallen out or blown away in the wind. What actually causes hair loss? For most cases of balding, the culprit is a condition called androgenetic alopecia. This is also known as genetic hair loss and will progress regardless of hat wearing. Genetic hair loss is caused by excess DHT, a hormone that affects the follicles on the top of the head for men and follicles all over the head for women. This causes thinning in 50% of men and 35% of women. Thankfully, there are options for treating androgenetic alopecia at any stage. How can we stop, prevent or solve hair loss? From hair transplants to treatments to non-surgical hair replacement, we can help you find a solution to slow and stop your loss and even restore your hair permanently. Regardless of the cause, there are options for those experiencing hair loss of any kind. Our hair restoration experts have experienced hair loss, used the leading technology to restore their own looks, and help our clients do the same every day. Schedule your free consultation to understand the root cause of your loss and discuss your options.
