Female Hair Loss

If you are one of many women suffering from hair loss, we can help!

Although hair loss is considered to be a predominantly male problem, hair loss can affect women, too. In fact, women are nearly as likely to experience hair loss as men. According to the American Hair Loss Association, women make up 40% of American hair loss sufferers. Even though hair loss is not life-threatening, the psychological effects, such as loss of confidence and a diminished self-image, can be devastating.

Types of Hair Loss

1

Diffuse Hair Loss

Diffuse hair loss is characterized by widespread thinning and can only be treated with nonsurgical options, at least initially. This type of hair loss can be stabilized with treatment options like PRP with low-level laser therapy. Additionally, micropigmentation can make the hair appear much fuller and thicker. Surgical solutions may be considered later after diffuse hair loss is stabilized. Diffuse is caused by a number of factors other than genetic disposition, so at PAI Medical Indiana, our female hair transplant process includes a thorough evaluation to determine the underlying cause.

2

Female Pattern Hair Loss

Female pattern hair loss, which is thinning on the top of the head and crown only, is the most common type of hair loss in women. Its effects are noticed as the hair becomes thinner, weaker, more fragile, and shorter. This type of hair loss can often be linked to genetics, just as with men who suffer from male pattern baldness. The hair follicles are sensitive to DHT (dihydrotestosterone), which causes them to miniaturize and fall out. This type of hair loss can be treated with both surgical and nonsurgical solutions. Effective treatments for female hair loss include platelet rich plasma, non-surgical hair grafting, laser therapy, hair shampoos and supplements, hair transplants, and micropigmentation.

Female Hair Transplants

Hair loss is caused by a number of factors other than genetic disposition, so at PAI Medical Indiana, our female hair transplant process includes a thorough evaluation to determine the underlying cause. While not all females suffering from hair loss are candidates for hair transplantation, with new harvesting techniques and our unique process for treating female hair loss, the number of female patients we treat for permanent hair loss is increasing every year.

Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ is an innovative hair restoration procedure trademarked by PAI Medical, empowering both female and male hair loss patients with a completely natural result by transplanting up to 3 times the amount of hair in a single session. By transplanting more hair in a single session, we reduce cost, recovery time and the number of sessions required to see results. At PAI Medical Indiana, our doctors create a natural hair line that is both age and gender specific, so our female hair loss patients achieve long-term results specific to their unique needs.
