Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

PRP therapy is a new form of regenerative medicine that has been shown to help patients with hair loss. This process utilizes the patient’s own blood platelet rich plasma combined with an extra cellular matrix called A-cells, which promotes hair growth.

Growth Stimulated By Your Own Blood

As you may have seen on Good Morning America, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is one of the newest hair loss treatments clinically shown to stimulate new hair growth while slowing down or even stopping hair loss altogether. For those with thinning hair, the main goal should be to catch hair loss early and maintain healthy growing hair for as long as possible. PRP is an excellent way to stave off the need for more aggressive solutions. For over a decade, PRP has been used by the NFL, NBA, and other professional sports organizations to treat soft tissue damage. PRP is even being used in many new areas of medicine and dentistry because of its restorative properties.

PRP + A-Cell: The Dynamic Duo That Fights Hair Loss

Platelet-rich plasma/stem cell therapy contains many growth factors. When mixed with A-Cell (a healing powder also containing growth factors), it stimulates miniaturizing hair follicles at the cellular level. This revitalizes, repairs, and remodels damaged hair cells. It stimulates adult stem cells in damaged follicular tissues to produce improved hair growth, and significant improvement is possible with just a single treatment. The process begins with a blood sample from the patient. The patient’s blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate platelet-rich plasma from platelet-poor plasma. The platelet rich plasma is mixed with A-Cell and injected into thinning areas. While results can be seen in as little as four to eight months, the best results take 10 to 12 months to appear. PRP can also be used during hair transplant surgery to optimize results. Leading hair transplant practices around the world now recommend this treatment in conjunction with surgery.

What is A-Cell?

A-Cell’s MatriStem technology (an FDA approved medical device) works at the cellular level to repair and remodel damaged tissues. A-Cell has a broad range of uses in surgical procedures, and is a naturally occurring matrix of proteins’ found in tissue layers. When A-Cell is placed into a surgical site or wound, it is resorbed, stimulating adult stem cells in the damaged tissues. This process will regenerate dormant follicular tissues, thereby producing improved quality in hair growth.

How It Is Done

For hair restoration, A-Cell is combined with PRP (platelet rich plasma) and injected into the scalp. The application of A-Cell and PRP causes miniaturized hair follicles to become healthier and larger, producing more robust hair growth. A-Cell activates follicular progenitor cells (adult stem cells) and PRP is loaded with growth factors that promote rapid angiogenesis and localized cell growth. Effective for both male and female pattern hair loss, A-Cell + PRP has also regrown hair in alopecia areata, eyebrowhypotrichosisand other patient cases with non-hereditary hair loss.

The nutrient rich plasma (PRP) is extracted from the patient’s blood and then concentrated before being reintroduced into the scalp for hair loss. These vital platelets contain growth factors that activate and rejuvenate cells in the body. The concentrated platelets in PRP contain tremendous amounts of bioactive proteins, which include the growth factors PDGF (platelet derived growth factor) and VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor). These growth factors initiate and accelerate tissue repair, and, according to experts have also been shown to have positive effects for hair loss. This safe therapy has been around for decades and used successfully in the science of healing wounds and injuries.

Results Before and After PRP & A-Cell Treatment:

The growth factors, when released, promote tissue repair, angiogenesis (capillary formation), collagen production, and encourage normalization of the hair follicular unit. Most importantly, evidence suggests PRP can reverse the miniaturization process of hair follicles (a result of dihydrotestosterone, DHT), when injected into the balding areas of the scalp. PRP contains many growth factors that stimulate the hair follicle’s growth and can be used pre-operatively, intra-operatively, or post-operatively.

The PRP treatment approach involves drawing the patient’s own blood and spinning it to isolate the plasma that is enriched with growth factors. This plasma is then injected into the areas of hair loss and results start to be noticeable in about 90 days. Results can take up to a year. PRP can be used alone or safely combined with all other hair therapies such as transplantation, low-level laser therapy and topical and oral treatments.
