If you’re considering a hair transplant, you might be concerned about what happens after your procedure. How will you look? How will you feel? How long will it take to see results?
Read on to see the timeline of what you can expect throughout the healing and growth process after a Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ transplant.
What is Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™?
Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ uses a blend of different hair groupings (grafts) and redistributes them according to the natural way in which they exist. By transplanting up to three times the amount of hair in a single session, we reduce the number of hair transplant procedures, reduce cost, and maximize results.
When considering a medical procedure, it’s normal to be worried that you might be hindered from your day-to-day activities or usual lifestyle. Fortunately, not all medical procedures end with weeks of recovery or keep you from doing the things that you want.
We Grow Hair Indy offers state-of-the-art technology when it comes to hair transplantation. Our Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ procedure allows for minimal downtime, virtually no pain, and more natural results in fewer procedures.
What to Expect in the First Week
Immediately after your procedure, you’ll receive important medications and detailed instructions. Following these post-procedure instructions and resting upright as soon as you arrive home is important for successful healing. We’ll call you that evening to check in and offer any additional instructions you might need.
The day after your procedure, you’ll come in to have a hair wash and quick inspection. After this, you will need to continue resting for the second day.
In this first week, swelling is normal. Follow the recommended instructions to use ice packs and warm compresses for this time and avoid any heavy lifting or exercise.
What to Expect at 10 Days
In the first 10 days after your procedure, you’ve been limiting intense physical activity like heavy lifting. However, you can go back to work and even wear a hat just two days after the procedure.
On Day 10, you’ll head back into our office for your suture removal. This is a simple part of the healing process. Once your suture has been removed, wait 48 hours before doing any heavy lifting or exercise. Then, you can get back to any of your daily activities.
Check out the video below to see one of our VIPs, Paul Poteet, take us through his daily routine for the 10 days following his Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ hair transplant procedure. Paul had his hair transplant procedure to redefine his hairline and fill in his crown.
Paul is a very high-profile guy and is on TV frequently. He was able to go back on the air seven days after having his hair transplant done at We Grow Hair Indy.
What to Expect at 30 Days
At this point, your transplanted hair will probably temporarily fall out. This might seem like a problem, but it’s completely normal on the journey to new growth.
It then takes 60-90 days for the newly transplanted hairs to get out of the “resting phase” and start growing. In the resting phase, the hair lies dormant under the surface. Once this phase is over, you’ll start to see early signs of growth.

What to Expect at 4 Months
At 4 months, new hair growth is happening, and you’ll probably notice a clear difference in your appearance. In the video below, you’ll see our client, Rick Demulling, at his 4 month hair transplant follow-up, where his results were already amazing.
“I’m not wearing a hat anymore and that’s a huge deal” Rick commented as we looked at his before pictures. Check out his progress and see what happens at a typical 4 month post procedure follow up.
What to Expect at 12+ Months
You’ll see your final hair transplant results in 8-21 months. Depending on the target areas of the procedure, this means fuller hair, a restored hairline or crown, and an overall natural, better look.

Former Staff Sergeant, Joe Bergen, started noticing his hair loss during his first tour in Iraq when he would take his helmet off and notice more hair than usual in the pads. Over the years, Joe’s hair loss progressed further from hairline through to his crown. He wanted a permanent solution to his hair loss and the Multi-Unit Hair Grafting™ procedure gave him more hair and more coverage in just one procedure.
